Blaze Reaching High With Two Signings
(posted 10-14-09 )

The Chicago Blaze are pleased to announce that defensemen Kevin High and forward
Tim Spryszak have signed contracts for the 2009-2010 season. Both players are local
to the Chicago area and are important as the sophomore Chicago franchise develops
its fan base. Terms of the contracts are not released. This brings the Blaze pre season roster to eight.
High, who played 2 regular season and 2 playoff games for the Blaze in last years inaugural season, “brings skill and calm to the position, “ says Head Coach Steve Pronger adding, “ Kevin has a maturity level that many others on this team can learn from and it will be a calming factor in our own end. He will make quality first passes with the in puck in the defensive zone and will make plays that will lead to goals while in the other teams end.” The 27 year old, 6’1”, 200 High calls New Lenox, Illinois home and attended and played for Lincoln Way Central High school. Prior to playing pro hockey Kevin suited up for 2 different NCAA programs, first at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota followed for 2 seasons at Robert Morris College in Chicago. A partial season was spent with the Danville Pounders in the NEHL before returning home to skate with the Blaze.

Spryszak, 23, who will add grit and skill up front for Chicago played in 11 regular season games and in 1 playoff game with the club last year. The 5’8”, 200 right winger totaled 3 goals and 4 assists and 29 penalty minutes in those 12 games. Tim, who is a local product, makes his home in Skokie, Illinois and attended Niles North High school. About Spryszak team owner Aaron Mattey says, “Tim no doubt will be a fan favorite. He is a strong, intelligent player. He plays with poise beyond his years, has tremendous puck sense and skill, giving him the ability to make those quality plays. Plus he responds well to physical play and when under pressure. A nice fit for one of our top two lines”.

Kevin High, Tim Spryszak and the rest of the Blaze players take to the ice at West Meadows Ice Arena as training camp starts Monday October 12th. All sessions are free and open to the public. The puck drops for the Blaze home opener against the Detroit Hitmen at 7:00 P.M. on October 24 at West Meadows. Tickets for that and all games are available at the West Meadows box office or at www.chicagoblazehockey.com
